Wales risks falling behind after Brexit if the Welsh government doesn’t do more to support businesses, enterprise and boost competition the Welsh Conservative party’s conference heard today.
Conservative MEP for Wales, Kay Swinburne, told the conference that future generations are relying on us to get the best Brexit deal possible for Wales and Britain, but the right deal must be matched by a pro-business Welsh Government if we are to deliver for them.
Dr Swinburne said: “I believe this Brexit generation has a responsibility to the next, and to those that follow, to get it right. That means we must secure the best Brexit deal for Wales and Britain while fulfilling our commitments to grow the economy, put more people into work and boost wages that took us into government.
“As our government seeks new partnerships around the world, I believe we must strive for the same here at home. If our country’s future is to be built on these links we must encourage the Welsh government to support businesses, enterprise and boost competition in the areas for which it is responsible.
“It is not just about those who voted leave or remain but about those future generations who will be affected by the choices we make today, and the opportunities we create for tomorrow.
“Wales is home to many successful companies, some started here, others have invested and grown here because we are known for our hard work and innovation. We need to continue to reassure investors that we have the vision and ambition to retain this reputation in the years ahead."
